Woodbury Elementary School PTO Bylaws
Preamble These bylaws govern the operations of the Woodbury Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). They are designed to promote active engagement among parents, teachers, and the school community, and to support the educational and social environment of Woodbury Elementary School.
Article I: Name and Identity
The name of this organization shall be the Woodbury Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), located in Woodbury, MN.
Article II: Purpose
Mission: To support our students and teachers and build strong connections through our community.
Goals:
To provide financial and volunteer support for educational and social needs.
To organize events that cultivate community spirit and engagement.
To advocate for the inclusion, equity, welfare and educational interests of students.
Article III: Membership
Eligibility: Membership is open to all parents, guardians, and staff at Woodbury Elementary School.
Rights: All members have voting rights.
Non-Discrimination: The PTO shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, age, or disability.
Article IV: Officers and Governance
Executive Board Composition: The Executive Board shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and other positions as deemed necessary.
Duties of Officers:
President: Leads the PTO, presides at meetings, represents the PTO in the community.
Vice President: Assists the President and takes over their duties in their absence.
Secretary: Maintains records, meeting minutes, and correspondence.
Treasurer: Manages finances, presents financial reports, and prepares the budget.
Elections: Officers are elected annually by the general membership.
Terms: Officers serve for one year and may be re-elected.
Article V: Meetings
Regular Meetings: Held monthly during the school year.
Annual Meeting: For electing officers, approving the budget, and conducting other necessary business.
Special Meetings: Can be called as needed with appropriate notice.
Article VI: Committees
Types: Standing and special committees will be established as needed.
Appointment: Committee chairs are appointed by the President and approved by the Executive Board.
Functions: Committees are responsible for specific activities and events.
Article VII: Financial Policies
Budget: A budget will be prepared annually and approved by the membership.
Financial Oversight: The Treasurer and Executive Board oversee financial management.
Auditing: Financial records shall be reviewed or audited annually.
Article VIII: Amendments
These bylaws can be amended at any regular or special meeting of the PTO, provided that notice of the proposed amendment has been given at least 7 days prior.
Article IX: Dissolution
Upon dissolution of the PTO, any remaining funds should be used to pay any outstanding bills and, with membership approval, donated to Woodbury Elementary School for the benefit of the students.
